Sometimes a project comes along that brings a smile to your face. When My Sweet Little Bake Shop reached out to me it was a match made in cupcake heaven. When you have a client who has a vision, knows what their brand is about, and communicates their expectations clearly you know the project is going to be a success before you even get started. They are a true joy to work with.

Let's take a look at how these illustrations developed and how they help grow the My Sweet Little Bake Shop brand with customers.
After an initial design consultation it was clear we were all on the same page when it came to creating a series of fun vintage inspired illustrations focusing on their award winning cupcakes. The client was already familiar with my illustration style and left it up to me to design retro inspired typographic elements that were fun and playful. My Sweet Little Bake Shop has established colors as part of their existing brand identity. My goal was to use various shades and combinations of those colors to create design elements that were eye-catching while staying authentic to the brand ethos.

One area we wanted to focus on was the concept of purchasing the cupcakes by the dozen. Consumers are comfortable with this idea when it comes to donuts but maybe have not considered buying cupcakes by the dozen. We want the customer to find the idea of purchasing a dozen cupcakes convenient and appealing. Hopefully with repeat visits purchasing a dozen or more becomes the default for the customer as they look forward to making choices from standard flavors as well as seasonal favorites.
For the first illustration we wanted to feature the cupcakes stacked high on a servicing tray. The concept here being you don't need to spend hours buying supplies and making cupcakes. My Sweet Little Back Shop will serve them up to you. This is an easy, no stress purchase for the customer. Everyone enjoys being pampered and having people serve them. The cupcake and the experience should feel indulgent.

The second illustration shows the joy and excitement in a child's eyes when they get to help choose their favorite flavors of cupcakes. In this way the illustration invites the whole family to participate in the purchasing experience as well as reminding adults of the childhood joys found in the sweet shop.

Both illustrations were created using Adobe Draw for iPad with Apple Pencil before being exported to Adobe Photoshop where color refinements were made and final typography was created.

I hope you enjoyed this peek behind the scenes and if you are craving some sweet treats of your own you know where to go!
